Raya and the Last Dragon review: Inspired by films such as “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Spirited Away,” the 59th animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios is a phenomenal movie that is both magnificent and beautiful. The visuals are marvelous, and the story is powerful and heartwarming, which is what you’ve expected to experience every time Disney releases a brand new animated feature film. Kelly Marie Tran gives a fantastic performance as the strong and noble hero Raya. Awkwafina gives a scene-stealing performance as the Dragon known as Sisu, providing hilarious and heart-wrenching moments and having amazing chemistry with Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina continues to show why she is one of the funniest actresses working today. The rest of the actors in the ensemble cast give great performances, including Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Benedict Wong, and Sandra Oh. “Raya and the Last Dragon” is an amazing work of art that pays homage to Asian filmmakers Akira Kurosawa and Hayao Miyazaki. Thanks to the beautiful animation, powerful story, and incredible performances from Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina, “Raya and the Last Dragon” is a wonderful addition to the Walt Disney line up of great animated movies and gives us an excellent strong female Disney character that is a tough warrior who will sacrifice everything she has to save her people no matter the cost.
