Obsession: One of the best films of the year is also an instant horror classic
You know what they say, be careful what you wish for, and in the case of “Obsession,” this film from start to finish doesn’t mess around. The newest psychological horror film is an absolute masterpiece from first-time director Curry Barker, as the idea of wishing someone to fall in love with you is taken to a dark, disturbing turn through the film’s incredible screenplay and scary moments that aren’t cheap jump scares but are very inventive. Michael Johnston delivers an excel

The Mandalorian and Grogu: The most fun in the Star Wars saga since Solo: A Star Wars Story
Serving as a continuation of the Disney+ television series “The Mandalorian”, the newest film in the Star Wars Saga may come off as a long, extended episode of the TV show, but the film manages to be a fun thrill ride from start to finish. Jon Favreau, who also created “The Mandalorian,” returns to direct the film. While his direction towards the second half may come off as unfocused, the majority of his direction is a fun, action-packed adventure as well as a personal connec

The Sheep Detectives: One of the funniest comedies of the year
Based on the novel “Three Bags Full”, the latest mystery-comedy from director Kyle Balda, on paper looks like a silly, childish film, but in execution is a smart, hilarious comedy. The film may rely too much on childlike humor and be predictable at times, but it doesn’t change the fact that the idea of a herd of sheep trying to solve a mystery is a genius premise, and the mature jokes are so strong that they overpower the childlike jokes. The film’s ensemble cast is a combina

The Devil Wears Prada 2: A fantastic comedy sequel that earns its twenty year wait
Serving as a sequel to the 2006 comedy classic, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” was 100% worth the 20-year wait. Director David Frankel returns from the first film to direct the second, achieving great success. Frankel manages to take a sequel that could have been so easy to replicate the original, and not only deliver a story just as good as the original but also show where the characters ended up twenty years after the events. The main cast from the first film, consisting of Mery

Michael: Jaafar Jackson is excellent in Biopic that unfortunately plays itself too safe
Inspired by the true story of one of the most iconic entertainers in the music business, “Michael” features an incredible lead performance and a fantastic soundtrack that contains Michael Jackson’s greatest hits, but the story doesn’t have enough drama, and a ton of scenes feel rushed, trying to cram as much material as possible. Director Antoine Fuqua plays it too safe because, aside from Michael Jackson’s strained relationship with his father, there isn’t much drama to expl

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: A movie that applies more to kids and fans of the series
Serving as a sequel to the 2023 animated film and based on the game “Super Mario Galaxy”, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is a fun animated film that will delight families. However, it doesn't fully capitalize on its world-building. The film's concept offers a rich universe to explore, with tons of new places and characters, but it has one too many subplots, making it very difficult to follow. Regardless, the film has a ton of good stuff, such as very funny comedic moments, ex

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come: Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton are fantastic in horror comedy sequel
Serving as a direct sequel to the 2019 horror-comedy hit, “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” is a great follow-up that expands on the story the first one started, with bigger stakes and family conflict for our two main characters. Directing duo Radio Silence returns to helm the next installment of their highly successful film from seven years ago. While the story borrows the same tropes from the original, it still manages to be a great sequel, just as good as the original. Samara

Project Hail Mary: Ryan Gosling is fantastic in the latest science fiction masterpiece
Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the newest Sci-Fi film from directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller is a fantastic science fiction film where the mission isn’t about saving the world, and instead, two different people from different planets learning more about themselves than they realize. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller tell the story in a non-linear structure to show how the main protagonist is sent into space on a mission he believes he isn’t well

Hoppers: Pixar newest film is an excellent return to form for the famed animation studio
The newest animated film from Pixar Studios is a fun and emotional movie that also marks a return to form for the juggernaut animation studio, which suffered mixed results over the past four years. While 2024’s “Inside Out 2” was their only successful film over the four years, “Hoppers” brings Pixar back to what makes the company great. The film focuses on human emotions and tackles themes of maturity, friendship, and family, and offers a wonderful message about protecting na
