Anora: Mikey Madison is a star in one of the best films of the year

Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, "Anora" received universal acclaim from the festival, critics, and audience, earning the Palme d'Or, the festival's version of Best Picture. In the months since then, it has had screenings in Toronto, New York, Rome, and London, picking up more awards and momentum to help its awards campaign. Now that it has been released to the public, "Anora" has earned the hype it's gotten since this past May. Sean Baker's latest comedy drama begins as a real-life fairy tale that quickly transforms into an anxiety-filled tragedy about finding happiness only to lose everything in dramatic fashion. Sean Baker does a fantastic job in his screenplay and direction by making the audience invested in the characters. Still, as the film goes on, he makes them question their motives and makes the audiences ask themselves if the characters are doing the right or wrong. After appearing on the FX series "Better Things" and having supporting roles in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and 2022's "Scream," Mikey Madison delivers a phenomenal breakthrough performance as the title character. Madison's performance throughout the film goes through several emotions ranging from happiness to depression at the drop of a hat. Not only does she come off as believable, but it's also a performance that could award her a Best Actress Oscar this year. Thanks to Sean Baker's excellent direction and screenplay and a phenomenal Oscar-caliber performance by Mikey Madison, "Anora" is an absolute masterpiece and one of the year's best movies. The film comes off as a dark and dramatic version of the 1990 classic "Pretty Woman" which is interesting because Mikey Madison's character comes off as a darker version of Julia Roberts from "Pretty Woman" and just like how Roberts became a star in 1990, Madison announces to the world that she is a star in a similar fashion.
