The fourth film in “The Bad Boys” franchise sees the return of Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett as they are tasked to save Miami once again in a fun summer action sequel. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah return from “Bad Boys for Life” to direct “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” In contrast, this installment isn’t as good as the previous film; Arbi and Fallah’s direction is fast-paced and contains many impressive action sequences. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles of Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, and their performances and their chemistry are once again fantastic. The film also contains excellent performances by its supporting cast consisting of Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Jacob Scipo, Rhea Seehorn, and Joe Pantoliano. “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” may not be as good as “Bad Boys for Life,” but thanks to Arbi and Fallah’s excellent direction, fantastic action sequences, and incredible performances by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is a ton of fun and alongside with its predecessor a breath of air within the Bad Boys franchise. It should also be worth mentioning that this is Will Smith’s first theatrical film since he won an Oscar for “King Richard” and slapping Chris Rock on the same night and this film is a great starting point for a comeback, and if this is the start to his comeback, then he succeeds.
