Dolittle: An Unnecessary Remake no one was asking for

Corey Quinto

While not as bad as people say it is, but it still isn’t a good remake based on 1967’s “Dr. Dolittle” and the two comedies starring Eddie Murphy. Stephen Gaghan’s newest film, while very beautiful to look at and the visuals for the animals look decent, the storytelling is incredibly sloppy, and the editing is very choppy trying to be three movies into one. The one good thing that was fun about the film was that you could tell that even though he has to do very questionable things, Robert Downey Jr. does the best he can do with the material given to him. It’s was also fun to figure out who was each animal’s voice which included Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, and Marion Cotillard. “Dolittle” has some fun and exciting ideas. Still, those ideas are brought down by a forgettable story and sloppy direction by Stephen Gaghan that sucks the joy out of what made Doctor Dolittle such a fun and exciting character for the whole family. But hey look on the bright side at least the animals looked more real than the ones that were brought to life in “Cats.”
