Despite having an excellent concept on paper, it’s execution operates like a jungle gym on the school playground. The film is hugely convoluted, confusing, and very predictable and had moments where I was like this moment will happen like this, and I was right. Michael Peña was pretty good as the main character and did the best he could do with the material given to him. In contrast, actors like Maggie Q, Michael Rooker, Austin Stowell, and Lucy Hale come off as bland and uninteresting characters. “Fantasy Island” lives up to its name by being a terrible fantasy due to the dull characters, distorted story, and sloppy direction by Jeff Wadlow that makes me want to request for a new fantasy to live in and not the crappy one I just went through.
