Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: A worthy follow up to Mad Max: Fury Road

Corey Quinto

Nine years ago, director George Miller released the fourth installment of the Mad Max series titled "Mad Max: Fury Road," it has since been regarded as one of the best action films of the 21st century. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for George Miller, while also introducing an iconic film character in Imperator Furiosa, played by Oscar winner Charlize Theron. "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" is a great origin story that helps elevate "Mad Max: Fury Road" on rewatch thanks to its compelling screenplay, impressive action sequences, and fantastic performances from its cast. Anya Taylor-Joy delivers a tremendous performance as the younger version of Furiosa. Taylor-Joy's take on Furiosa is very different from the one Charlize Theron played in "Mad Max: Fury Road," she manages to make the character her own, showing us the unbelievable transformation she goes on to become the character when we first see her in Fury Road. Chris Hemsworth delivers an incredible performance as Lord Dementus. Known for playing many good guy roles, most notably Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hemsworth's first role as an antagonist is a fantastic character change, and i'm curious to see if he does more villain roles in the future. Thanks to George Miller's excellent direction, incredible action sequences, and fantastic performances from Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" is not only a worthy follow-up to "Mad Max: Fury Road" but will give you a much bigger appreciation for both the film and Charlize Theron's performance upon rewatch.
