Highest 2 Lowest: Spike Lee and Denzel Washington reunite to create a fantastic crime drama

nineteen years since they last worked together, Spike Lee and Denzel Washington reunite for the fifth time to deliver the latest crime drama based on the 1963 Japanese film “High and Low” from legendary director Akira Kurosawa. Drawing on an upbeat feeling and relying on the Hip-Hop music scene, Spike Lee manages to create a fantastic crime film that also prompts the audience to question whether the decisions made by the characters were the right idea in a situation that could damage their lives forever. Returning for the first time since 2006, “Inside Man”, Denzel Washington reteams with Spike Lee to deliver another fantastic performance as a music mogul caught in a ransom deal that could ruin his life. While it’s easy to see him consistently deliver fantastic performances over the years, working with Spike Lee unleashes the best we’ve seen from Denzel Washington, and this performance further cements them as one of the greatest duos in cinema history. The film also features excellent performances from the supporting cast, which includes Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, Dean Winters, John Douglas Thompson, LaChanze, Aubrey Joseph, Elijah Wright, and ASAP Rocky, who contributed to the film’s soundtrack. Thanks to Spike Lee’s incredible direction, excellent cinematography that captures the feeling of New York City, excellent soundtrack from ASAP Rocky, and a fantastic performance from Denzel Washington, “Highest 2 Lowest” is an excellent movie that even if you are unaware of the original film, you will find this movie as a fantastic crime drama and one of the best films of the year. After being alienated from Hollywood in the early 2010’s due to his political beliefs, 2018’s “BlacKkKlansman” began a comeback for the ages and with “Highest 2 Lowest” as well as 2020’s “Da 5 Bloods”, Spike Lee not only continues to cement himself as one of the greatest directors working today but one of the best redemption stories we’ve seen in recent cinema.
