I Know What You Did Last Summer: A slasher film that feels too much like Scream

The third installment of the popular slasher film series may have some enjoyable moments, but as a whole, the movie comes off as an unofficial rip-off version of “Scream”. Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson starts the film out by honoring the original 1997 film but changes the story by making it a who is the killer story which is a style that works for “Scream” and without spoilers if you know the plot of the original film then this story comes off as more of a rip-off then trying to be original. The film has a good supporting cast, including Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt reprise their roles from the original film and deliver a good performance for the brief time they have in this movie. “I Know What You Did Last Summer” may have some pretty good kills and great performances from its ensemble cast, but its screenplay feels like a carbon copy of another slasher film, becoming distracting to the point where it should have been called “Scream 6.5.”
