The sixth entry in the popular “Karate Kid” franchise is a ton of fun despite having a runtime that could’ve gone for an extra half hour. First-time director Jonathan Entwistle does a good job directing a story that is close to being as good as the original and filming well-made action sequences. However, the biggest problem with the film is that it feels too short, clocking in at ninety minutes, and I feel like if the movie were two hours, it would flow perfectly because the plot points felt rushed. Reprising his role for the first since “The Karate Kid Part III” back in 1989, Ralph Macchio delivers an excellent performance as Daniel LaRusso, and it was great to see him return to the role that made him star back in the 1980s. Jackie Chan delivers an outstanding performance reprising his role of Mr. Han from 2010’s “The Karate Kid” and taking on the mantle from the legendary Pat Morita as the new Mr. Miyagi. Ben Wang turns in a great breakthrough performance as a kung fu prodigy who slowly becomes the newest Karate Kid. The supporting cast, which consists of Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, and Wyatt Oleff, all deliver great performances in the film. Thanks to the fantastic action sequences and excellent performances from Macchio, Chan, and Wang, “Karate Kid: Legends’ is a fun movie for longtime fans of the series while also introducing new fans to the series.
