Serving as the third installment of Ti West’s “X” trilogy, “MaXXXine” continues the story of Maxine Minx and the aftermath of being the sole survivor of a gruesome murder spree. “MaXXXine” is the weakest of the three films, which include “X” and “Pearl” because the previous two films were slasher horror films, whereas this one is a crime drama, making it feel very strange to see its change in tone. Despite that, Ti West’s screenplay is full of twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat and show us how far someone will go to become within the dark side of Hollywood. Mia Goth reprises her role as Maxine Minx. She delivers another fantastic performance as a former porn star breaking into mainstream cinema while also battling her inner demons from her life and the events of the previous film. The film also has a great supporting cast, including Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon. Thanks to Ti West’s excellent direction and a fantastic lead performance by Mia Goth, “MaXXXine” is a great third chapter in the “X” series. While people dream about wanting to be famous, the film leaves the viewers asking if there is such a thing as having too much fame because you never know who you’re going to run into, and it could either provide you with success or the cost of your own life.
