Mulan: A Beautiful Remake that will have you hypnotize for days

Corey Quinto

This live-action Disney remake based on the classic 1998 animated movie is a significant update that offers exciting new material to Mulan's story. Niki Caro's direction is strikingly beautiful that makes me want to get sucked into this incredible world and get lost in it for days and weeks. Yifei Liu delivers a fantastic breakthrough performance as Mulan by providing so much depth and emotion to a character that was made famous by the great Ming-Na Wen. Donnie Yen, Yoson An, Tzi Ma, Ron Yuan, and Jet Li provided some excellent performances within the supporting cast. As far as negatives go, I would say that the witchcraft elements are completely unnecessary. While I enjoyed the performances of Gong Li and Jason Scott Lee as the villains, they are mostly there to be a plot device and didn't stand out as much compared to the other villains we've seen in other live-action Disney remakes. "Mulan" is an excellent modern retelling of the animated classic. A lot of that is thanks to the incredible action scenes, Niki Caro's outstanding direction, and a fantastic lead performance by Yifei Liu. Inspired by the work of Jet Li, who ironically plays The Emperor in this film and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Mulan" stands toe to toe as one of the best Disney remakes since 2016's "The Jungle Book" and can accept the fact that we didn't need to bring back Mushu but instead tell a new story that is both fresh and original minus the unnecessary changes as discussed earlier.
