Based on the 1947 film of the same name, Guillermo del Toro’s latest is (no pun intended) a wonderful nightmare like you’ve never seen before. Guillermo del Toro steps away from his trademark monsters to give us a story that is a fantastic combination of 1940’s detective films and the 1930’s circus horror film “Freaks.” Bradley Cooper gives an incredible performance as the main protagonist and continues to establish himself as one of the best actors working today. The rest of the ensemble cast features a collection of great actors giving excellent performances, including Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn. “Nightmare Alley” is a gothic circus that plays to Guillermo del Toro’s skills as a director and is an excellent follow up to his Oscar-winning masterpiece “The Shape of Water.” Thanks to its incredible visuals, fantastic direction, and great performances led by Bradley Cooper, “Nightmare Alley” is another home run for the great visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
