The latest action thriller from acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the year's best films and a serious awards contender for this year's Oscars. Director Paul Thomas Anderson has challenged himself over the years by combining the indie film circuit with mainstream genres to create a unique cinematic experience, as seen in films such as "Boogie Nights", "There Will Be Blood", "Phantom Thread", and "Licorice Pizza". By tackling a high-budget action film, Paul Thomas Anderson demonstrates that he isn't afraid to try new things and succeeds to perfection. Leonardo DiCaprio delivers an excellent performance as a paranoid former member of a revolutionary group trying to save his daughter from a corrupt military officer played by Sean Penn, who also turns in a fantastic performance in this film. The film also contains great performances from its supporting cast, which includes Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. Thanks to Paul Thomas Anderson's excellent direction and screenplay and incredible performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, "One Battle After Another" is one of the two best films of the year, the other being "Sinners", and in my opinion, Leonardo DiCaprio's best performance since 2015's "The Revenant" a movie that won him his first Oscar.
