The latest romantic comedy from director Will Gluck is a fun movie featuring two likable characters trying to find the love of their life, unaware that they are about to fall in love with each other over the course of one night. The film takes inspiration from the horror film “The Purge,” but instead of crime being legal for twelve hours, premarital sex is legal for twelve hours. Throughout the film, there is a mandate that people are protesting to stop, which gets super confusing to follow along, and it rarely shows up, making a plot line that could have been interesting come off as extremely forgettable. Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner deliver excellent performances as the two main characters. They spend most of the movie separated from each other, and when they cross paths within the twelve hours, they learn that they might have feelings for each other, and their chemistry is fantastic. “One Night Only” may not be the best comedy of the year, but the film is a good date night movie that couples can enjoy, and that is thanks to the great lead performances of Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner.
