Based on the famous video game franchise from Sega, “Sonic the Hedgehog” is a ton of fun for longtime fans of the series and contains a great sense of adventure that’s both funny and exciting. Ben Schwartz is fantastic, likable, and hilarious as Sonic the Hedgehog, and the design for the character of Sonic is impressive, considering that he almost looked like a fiasco. James Marsden is also great as the main human character, and the chemistry between him and Schwartz’s Sonic is both funny and awesome. However, the standout performance in this movie is Jim Carrey as antagonist Dr. Robotnik. Carrey’s performance as Dr. Robotnik is hilarious and over the top. Still, crazily, it fits the character just like in the video games and pays homage to the iconic characters that Jim Carrey played in the ’90s. “Sonic the Hedgehog” while not adding anything original to the story of Sonic, the film is still a ton of fun thanks to the excellent visuals, hilarious moments, and great performances from Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and Jim Carrey. Thanks to this movie and last year’s “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” the video game movie genre has been on a roll, and I wonder if that means we will be getting a good live-action Super Mario Bros Movie in the future, I guess will have to wait and see to find out.
