Superman: David Corenswet is a star as the iconic superhero known as Superman

In 2023, Warner Bros hired filmmaker James Gunn to take over DC Studios following the conclusion of the mixed franchise known as the DC Extended Universe. James Gunn completed the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy at Marvel Studios. James Gunn arrived with a ten-year plan to map out the franchise with movies and TV shows titled DC Universe. It began with the HBO Max animated series “Creature Commandos,” a massive success. However, “Superman” is the real starting point that had to succeed, and it did, surpassing expectations. James Gunn’s latest film about the iconic hero is an incredible story about how one man must rise to become a symbol of hope and the hero who inspired many generations, beginning in 1938. Gunn’s direction is a homage to the 1978 original film thanks to its excellent direction, incredible action sequences, and fantastic score that sounds similar to John Williams’ iconic music. David Corenswet delivers a tremendous performance as Clark Kent AKA Superman, who, like Christopher Reeve, displayed exceptional charm and charisma on both sides of Clark Kent. We can’t tell that Superman is behind the glasses. Rachel Brosnahan delivers a fantastic performance as Lois Lane, who, much like her character from Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” fits what Lois Lane is supposed to be from the comic books, and Brosnahan passes with flying colors, plus her chemistry with Corenswet is fantastic. It mirrors the chemistry of Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder from 1978. Nicholas Hoult delivers an excellent performance as the film’s antagonist, Lex Luthor, who I feel is the perfect version of Lex Luthor. Manipulative, sadistic, and intimidating, Hoult manages to get all of the characteristics of why Lex Luthor is considered one of the greatest comic book villains of all time. The film also contains a vast supporting cast of actors delivering great performances, which includes Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt AKA Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason AKA Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders AKA Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica AKA The Engineer. Thanks to James Gunn’s fantastic direction, amazing visuals, powerful themes of immigration and accepting of others, and incredible performances from David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, “Superman” is a fantastic movie about one man’s compassion and dedication can inspire multiply people to come together and achieve great things in order make the world a happy, safe, and wonderful place to live in. The film is also a fantastic starting point for the DC Universe’s ten-year plan, and I’m excited to see where this series will go and how it builds to a potential new version of the Justice League.
