Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma: One of the smartest slasher comedies within the last few years

A year ago, I read the screenplay for this movie and really enjoyed it; now that it is released, I can see how it came out. Not only did the film come out great, but everything I read was brought to life on screen. Director Jane Schoenbrun follows up their previous film “I Saw the TV Glow” with a film that, judging by its title, sounds like a raunchy horror movie but instead is an excellent satire about how much pressure someone can have in finding love despite being more focused on their work. The film’s premise is also about rebooting a popular horror franchise. It was an excellent idea because popular horror franchises such as “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Friday the 13th”, and “Halloween” were all seen as masterpieces with their first installments but then made sequels that turned them into a joke and were then remade with a ton of pressure put onto the filmmakers. Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson deliver fantastic performances as a young filmmaker directing a popular film reboot and the former star of the original film, now past her prime. Thanks to Jane Schoenbrun’s fantastic direction and incredible performances from Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” is one of the smartest slasher comedies in recent years, and everything I read in the script last year made it into the final cut.
