The Odyssey: The best film of the year from director Christopher Nolan and star Matt Damon

Based on the epic poem of the same name by Homer, “The Odyssey” is a phenomenal, beautiful masterpiece on its way to becoming an instant classic. After winning two Oscars as a producer and director for the best picture winner “Oppenheimer”, Christopher Nolan was given his choice to do whatever he wanted for his next film, and the decision to create an adaptation of the famous Greek literary poem was seen as a challenge. Still, if you know his track record as a filmmaker, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he crafted a film that is probably better than “Oppenheimer”. Nolan manages to direct a film that keeps you engaged with a story that might not seem interesting, but thanks to the incredible storytelling and the ensemble cast, he achieves this with great success. Matt Damon delivers an excellent performance as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, trying to return home following the Trojan War. Throwing himself right into the action as well as being the major focus of the film, Damon manages to turn in one of the best performances of his career and his best film since his Oscar-nominated role in “The Martian”. The film also features fantastic performances from the rest of the ensemble cast, which includes Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Lupita Nyong’o as both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, Samantha Morton as Circe, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Zendaya as Athena, and Charlize Theron as Calypso. Thanks to Christopher Nolan’s fantastic direction and a phenomenal performance from Matt Damon, “The Odyssey” is the best film of the year and once again establishes why Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of all time, as well as being in the same tier of directing legends like Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
