The Old Guard: Theron continues to stake her claim as 21st century Action star royalty

Corey Quinto

Based on the comic book of the same name, the newest film from director Gina Prince-Bythewood kicks so much ass but also demonstrates living forever is not a good idea as it appears to be. Charlize Theron is fantastic as our main protagonist. Theron plays an immortal assassin but must come to terms with her life when she starts to lose that ability. The supporting cast, which consists of Kiki Layne, Marian Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are all great as well. The only negative I have is that the soundtrack is not good and makes the film distracting at certain moments in the movie. “The Old Guard” is one of the best action films of the year, and a lot of that is thanks to Prince-Bythewood’s excellent direction, incredible action sequences, and Charlize Theron’s impressive performance. With the help of action films like “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Atomic Blonde,” and this film, Charlize Theron is quickly rising as one of the best female action stars of the 21st century.
