The Running Man: Glen Powell is excellent in the newest action film from director Edgar Wright

Based on the novel by Stephen King and serving as the second adaptation following the 1987 film, “The Running Man” is a significant improvement over the original movie while also coming off as an accelerating thrill ride from start to finish. Director Edgar Wright makes an action film about how one man can win a billion dollars if he stays alive for 30 days. As he keeps going, he becomes a hero to the people and attracts tons of viewers to the program, making it a big hit. Inspired by the recent rise of AI/deepfaking technology and the 1976 classic “Network”, Edgar Wright does an excellent job of showing how the media will extort people and edit around certain things to bring in ratings and hide the truth or bigger stories from the public. Glen Powell delivers a fantastic performance as Ben Richards, a man who competes on The Running Man to provide for his family. After achieving success with 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick”, Glen Powell has proven himself within the past three years as Hollywood’s newest leading man thanks to films tv shows like “Hit Man”, “Anyone but You”, “Twisters”, “Chad Powers”, and “The Running Man” is another example of his ever growing success. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Katy O’Brian, and Martin Herlihy. Thanks to Edgar Wright’s incredible direction and A fantastic performance from Glen Powell, “The Running Man” is a massive improvement over the original while also exploiting the harsh truths of the media and will ask yourself the question of with all of the news programs and reality tv shows only interested in the ratings and not criticisms that come with it, was it all worth it in the end.
