Serving as a sequel to the 2023 animated film and based on the game “Super Mario Galaxy”, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is a fun animated film that will delight families. However, it doesn't fully capitalize on its world-building. The film's concept offers a rich universe to explore, with tons of new places and characters, but it has one too many subplots, making it very difficult to follow. Regardless, the film has a ton of good stuff, such as very funny comedic moments, excellent easter eggs that Mario fans will instantly recognize, and Chris Pratt once again delivers a great performance as Mario, despite the character's still very distracting voice. The film also contains great performances from the rest of the cast, which includes returning and new actors such as Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, and Glen Powell as Fox McCloud from the Star Fox series. “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” might not be the best animated film of the year. Still, its comedic moments and great performances from the voice department will be enough to entertain families and longtime fans of the Mario series for an hour and a half.
