Wicked: For Good: Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are once again fantastic in the second half of the hit broadway musical

It has now been a whole year since the first part of "Wicked" hit theaters, and while we waited for Part 2, it became a cultural phenomenon. It became the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2024, the highest-grossing musical movie of all time, and went on to receive 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won 2 for Costume Design and Production Design. With the success of Part 1, the pressure was on for Part 2 to be as good as the first one, and for the most part, it succeeded. "Wicked: For Good" is an excellent way to return to Oz and close out the story of Elphaba and Glinda, though its soundtrack falls short of the first movie's. Director Jon M. Chu brings back all the strengths of the first film, including great performances from the ensemble cast, incredible costumes and production design, and gorgeous cinematography. Still, the songs are the film's weakness because, in the first film, the songs were so memorable that they left an impact, including "The Wizard and I", "Dancing Through Life", "Popular", and "Defying Gravity". In contrast, the sequel has only one memorable song, the title song "For Good". Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande reprise their Oscar-nominated roles of Elphaba and Glinda, and it's safe to say that they will be back at the Oscars this year because they once again deliver fantastic performances as the iconic witches. "Wicked: For Good" might not be as strong as the first film. Still, it manages to deliver on the promise that Jon M. Chu gave us, which was to provide a thrilling conclusion to one of the greatest musicals of all time, and that is thanks to Jon M. Chu's incredible direction and fantastic leading performances from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
